Deep Tier

Dark energy, via weak lensing and galaxy clustering

What this is

Every imaging filter plus the grism, over a small area. Calibrates the photometric redshifts used across the wide tiers, and reaches the high-redshift universe directly.

Four nested tiers over more than a tenth of the sky. Wide tiers supply the galaxy shapes weak lensing needs; deep tiers calibrate them and reach the earliest galaxies.

Bands

Optical elements this tier observes through

F1461.464 µmVery wide band for maximum depth — the microlensing workhorse.
F0870.869 µmz-band analogue, used heavily for photometric redshifts.
F1061.060 µmY-band; a core High Latitude Wide Area Survey filter.
F1291.293 µmJ-band; a core survey filter.
F1581.577 µmH-band; a core survey filter.
F1841.842 µmReaches past the H band for the highest-redshift sources.
F2132.125 µmReddest band; probes the most obscured and most distant objects.
